Search Your Collection

Search your Collection by entering the words you want to search for into the appropriate text box. Do not use "quotation marks" in any search entry.

Once a search has been performed, only selections of the search results will be displayed in the Browse Thumbnails, View Collection, Edit Mode, and Table View screens. Export of your collection will contain only the records of the search results.

Search Fields:

Title

Enter a title name, or part of the title name of a movie here. Entering "Ocean's", (without quotes), for example, will display all the selections that include that word in the title. Any selections that match will be displayed as Thumbnails.

Year

Enter the Year of the selections you want to search for here. Entering "2007", for example, will display all the movies of that year.

Actors

Enter the name, or names, of actors here. You can search for more than one actor at the same time by using a comma between the names. Entering "Bruce Willis, Billy Bob Thornton", for example would return "Armageddon" as a search result, as well as perhaps other movies they were in.

Directors

Same as Actors, entering names will display all the selections that were directed by the name you entered.

Genre

Enter the genre, or type, of movie you want to search for here. Again, using a comma between genre types will narrow search results. Searching for "Action, Adventure", for example, will display only movies of those type.

*Click the down arrow to use the Genre List to select genres from the menu. Choose more than one genre by holding the CTRL while clicking items in the list. Press the doulble-arrow button to insert your choices into the Genre entry.

Rating

Enter the MPAA Rating to search for. (G, PG, PG-13, R, etc.) All movies with that rating will be displayed.

Keywords

Enter Keywords to search for here. The Keywords field is used for adding single words that best describe a movie. This is very helpful for searching for specific types of selections. For example, entering "conspiracy" will find all the movies that contain that keyword.

The Keywords field is very versatile and can be used to customize searches. For example, you could enter your own initials as keywords for your favorite movies. Searching for your initials would then display only the movies containing your initials in the Keywords field.

TIP: Similarly, you could use the Keywords field to help keep track of loaned DVD's! For example, entering the Keywords "Loaned to Adam" into the Keywords field will find all the movies you have loaned out to Adam. Entering "Loaned" would find all the movies you have loaned out.

Outline

Enter a key word or phrase to search for. Words that might be found in the plot, or outline, such as "vampire", for example, would display all the horror movies, but only those with the word "vampire" in the outline. A really handy way to search for movies!
